There are a couple of different ways to answer this question, and we're going to do our best to address them all. If you already own a domain through GoDaddy and want to use it with Wix, you can connect it by changing the nameservers for that domain. You can also buy a domain from GoDaddy and use your new Wix site builder site as well! Here's how:
If you already own a domain and want to use it with Wix, you can connect it to your site by changing its nameservers.
A domain name is the part of a website's URL that comes after the www and before the .com. It's called "domain" because it refers to a specific location on your web server, which is why you would use one when connecting your site to a third party like Wix.
Domain name servers (DNS) are what allow you to connect with those sites' DNS servers so that they can access your site's content and advertisements. They're also what allow you to use websites like Wix without having any knowledge of how DNS works!
A Domain Name System (DNS) is what helps users find websites based on their unique address—for example, http://www.google.com/ or https://twitter.com/. It's also what allows us internet users to remember complicated URLs by giving them easy-to-remember names instead: for example, www means World Wide Web (or "the whole wide world"), while com means commercial entity; indeed this system has been used since 1983!
Point your domain name to Wix
When you point your domain name to Wix, the information on your domain account will be sent to your Wix account. The change should take effect within a few days. If it doesn't work, contact customer support for assistance.
After setting the nameservers, please allow up to 48 hours for them to take effect.
Now that you’ve set up your custom domain, it’s time to change the nameservers for your website. This is an important step because it points your domain to Wix’s servers. To do this, you must contact your domain provider and ask them to change the nameservers on their end.
When changing a domain's name servers, please note that it can take up to 48 hours for updates to take effect.
You can use your GoDaddy Domain with a Wix site by changing the nameservers for that domain.
To use a GoDaddy domain with Wix, you will need to change the nameservers of your domain name.
You can change the nameservers for your GoDaddy domain in your account under Domains > Manage Domain Names. You will also need to enter the nameservers for your Wix account in order to connect them. This information can be found in your Wix dashboard under Settings > Domains.
You may have already seen a step in the process of setting up your Wix site that asks for the nameservers for your domain. The nameservers are the servers that hold all of your domain's information and allow users to access it. You can change these at any time by logging into GoDaddy Domain Management and visiting Settings > Domain Name Servers, or by opening up your Wix account and navigating to Domains > add new domain.
Once there, you'll see an option to change the name servers for each of your domains—select it! Once you've completed this step, we recommend waiting about 24 hours before continuing on with setting up your site. This will give enough time for everything to sync back up with GoDaddy or other DNS providers like Cloudflare or DynDNS services like NoIP (which also offers free plans).
